SIR – It was reported (T&A, July 2) that the salaries of the bosses of certain quangos are to be made public. What is a ‘quango’? Don’t bother looking it up in your dictionary, unless it is an ultra-modern one – it won’t be there.

Successive governments love bringing out these silly phrases, like ‘political correctness’ and ‘spin doctor’ to cover this inept policies. What is a ‘spin doctor’? Is it a GP who revolves on his axis?

What these quangos mean, in effect, is a great many people being paid a great deal of money for doing very little of a useful nature.

It is here where our Government should be making its cutbacks, not on the poor, hardworking workforce, the genuinely ill, or the unemployed, whom mostly are in that position through no personal fault.
