SIR – When virtually all public-funded regeneration is coming to a full-stop and the private sector has no money and even less confidence in Bradford, do we really need Barra Mac Ruairi and his 840-strong regeneration department?

Are they going to sit and twiddle their thumbs for the next two years?

I suggest that the required overall reduction in Council wage bills could easily be garnered from this now-superfluous department.

Perhaps they should be asked to justify their existence and weighed against redundancy candidates in other operational areas.
