SIR – It’s rich of Councillor Berry to lose his rag about the reductions in the Building Schools for Future programme (T&A, July 6).

After 13 years of utter financial incompetence by the Labour Government, to hear one of its party members take the high ground takes the biscuit.

Coun Berry’s party has not only bloated the quangos, public sector regulators, administrators, inspectors and the rest, but even made the country bust!

In five years (if we followed Labour’s scorched-earth approach in their dying months in Government), the repayments of Labour’s debts would be more than is currently spent on education, transport and climate change.

Maybe Coun Berry is proud of the vulgar borrowing of our children’s future, but I see it as an example of the most disgraceful and irresponsible government ever.

It will take a generation of awful decisions to mend, but never forget why this is happening.

The country is repaying Labour’s debt, and their incompetence, too, so put your whine- box away, Coun Berry, and accept the faults of the 13 years of the Blair/Brown fiasco.

Even if Gordon Brown had limped back to Number 10, I doubt this story would have been different.
