SIR Children given red card over street football' (T&A, May 18) with the additional headline Police issue danger warning' made interesting reading.
With the World Cup looming and hopefully our youngsters being suitably inspired to be active rather than couch potatoes, the temptation to have a kickabout in the road is very real.
In the 1970s, on our corner, a child was seriously disabled as a result of a car accident when he was playing football.
Since then, in Victor Meldrew style, I've done my best to dissuade youngsters from playing in the street with a football.
For the most part they and their parents have understood my concern.
In nearby St Paul's Church there is a Council notice stating no ball games'. It seems it's possible to put up one in such hallowed ground but not on dangerous corners.
It certainly would help, I suspect.
