SIR How heartily I agree with Derek Konig (T&A, May 16) regarding the alternative proposals for the Odeon site.
In my opinion two of them, the Bradford Pivot and New Victoria Place should be consigned to the rubbish bin forthwith. The third one, Casa Mela, should only be considered as a last resort if (or should I say when) the Odeon is demolished.
An excuse for independent assessors not being allowed into the building is because of the presence of asbestos.
I was under the impression that protective clothing and masks would solve this problem. After all, even if the building is demolished someone at some stage is going to have to go in there. If this excuse is no longer applicable how about these for alternatives:
- There's a Second World War unexploded bomb under it.
- The building's been taken over by aliens.
- The building's infested with vampires.
