SIR On a recent trip to Dublin I asked a local for directions. He replied: "If I was going there I wouldn't be starting from here at all." What reminded me of this old joke was my first glimpse of the proposals for the Odeon site.

The brief to developers should have been: We need a third major attraction to compliment the Photographic Museum and the Alhambra.

What we have been served up is a mish-mash of urban development that would fit into any vacant lot.

Let's analyse what has been proposed...

Apartments: There are currently 8,000 and rising of these in the city centre. Do we really need any more?

A hotel: I asked the manager of two city centre hotels if they are near capacity. The answer was no.

An extension to the college: Try walking past the main entrance on Great Horton Road at a lunchtime and then tell me that you want to impose this mass of uncouth humanity on to the city centre.

How ironic that Bradford is bidding for the "City of Film" accolade, while at the same time trying to destroy one of the last remaining icons to the genre. I'm sure this will not go unnoticed in the relevant places.
