SIR I have to say that I had expected there to be a backlash from the Punk Worship event at Sunbridge Road Mission.
I am a member of the Mission and was a "steward" on the evening. Anyone who did not attend the event would not really be able to have a balanced view of the evening.
Punk does give an image of violence and the rest, but in the 21st century we need to reach out to the youth of today. This was one way we felt this could be done and in my mind it did. The renditions of the hymns and choruses were just superb and tastefully done.
An interesting comment on the evening was overheard in a conversation on the lines of, "There is a punk evening at Sunbridge Road. Do you think the elders know about it?"
The answer to that was, yes the elders did know about it (two actually attended the event) and even the sceptical older generation of the church, although they probably would not have attended, I am sure would be 100 per cent behind the motives for the event.
