The huge amount of waste we generate and the problem of what to do with it is an increasingly pertinent one in our consumerist, throw-away society.

Thankfully, most of us seem to have got the message that rubbish needs to be disposed of properly, and many of us can be seen getting rid of our household garbage at the various waste disposal centres around the district.

But the rules are being flouted, and Bradford Council is now having to put on extra staff at these waste disposal sites to crack down on the numbers of businesses trying to use the facilities.

Businesses may well feel that the cost of getting rid of the waste they generate is excessive, but the answer is not to clog up facilities that are designed for domestic use.

Worryingly, staff at these centres have reported abusive behaviour from some businesses trying to dump their rubbish there and being refused entry.

Just as the Council has done a great job in clamping down on unsightly fly-tipping around Bradford and district, so it needs to stand firm on this issue.

The rules are there to ensure that ordinary householders have a place to get rid of their rubbish without having to queue behind vehicles from companies.

The sooner we all accept that we not only have to bin it for Bradford, we also have to bin it in the right place, the quicker we'll get the bright, clean city we are working towards.
