SIR There seems to be a misconception that carbon dioxide emissions are being used as an explanation of the increase in world temperatures and not the other way around.
Global warming may be a perceived phenomenon but it was also scientifically predicted and calculated a long time ago. For instance, the effects of the rapid burning of fossil fuels on world temperatures were detailed by Holmes, 1953.
For those who imagine that people in the future will be basking on the Costa del Blackpool, forget it. The ultimate effect may well be that Blackpool, along with huge areas of the world's land surface, will be under the sea.
This may not be imminent but if no action is taken then countries such as Holland will disappear entirely.
Where do you suppose all the displaced population will go?
