SIR - What is the point of John Prescott? There was very little point to him before, but now he has been stripped of his departments, there is even less.

Besides being able to drive his two Jags between two immaculate grace-and-favour houses, he has a £1.5 million pension package, which will allow him to wallow in retirement luxury to the tune of £60,000 a year.

He retains his £134,000 salary, plus lavish expenses, perks and privileges which adds up to a mouth-watering £250,000 a year all this for sitting around doing nothing.

Why aren't we British tax payers marching on Downing Street with pikes, pitchforks and blazing torches demanding the return of our hard-earned cash and clamouring for this individual to be put out to pasture?

Malcolm Wood, Westercroft View, Northowram.
