SIR Regarding Elaine Neale's letter (T&A, May 6) concerning breast surgeon Mr Robert Phipps, I agree with everything she said.

At Christmas 1999, immediately before Mr Phipps's troubles, I learned my life was in danger when a routine mammogram detected a huge aggressive tumour close to the breast bone. Mr Phipps operated within days.

Before and after the operation people said how lucky I was to have Mr Phipps as my surgeon.

I was very upset by what happened to Mr Phipps but would like to assure Bradford women who may be worried by the Panorama programme that they will receive the best care.

There is a great team of breast nurses, and anyone lucky to be managed by Dr Anne Raine will receive first-class care. Nothing is too much trouble for this kind, gentle doctor who continues to monitor us at her Friday clinic.
