SIR Mr Raistrick chooses to blatantly misinterpret my original letter regarding free bus travel for senior citizens to make irrelevant points (T&A, May 4).
His assertion that I have advocated a solution to the transport problem at the expense of senior citizens is too ridiculous for words, when I had suggested an allocation of resources to benefit all travellers.
Although senior citizens would be required to pay a most modest sum of 35p to travel throughout West Yorkshire, greater public transport investment would enable them to travel at more favourable prices outside West Yorkshire on rail, light rail and buses.
Furthermore, greater investment would enable a more regular and reliable bus and rail services with the possibility of introducing light rail throughout the conurbation which is better suited than buses to carrying large number of travellers.
Hence it would be in everybody's interest to provide lower public transport fares in general.
