SIR – I find it ironic to read in this month’s Community Pride that Marks & Spencer is to open its largest distribution centre in Europe at the top of the M606.

Apparently the city is “perfectly positioned as a prime business location and many businesses are seeing potential and moving in”.

A few miles away in the town centre, the local M&S long ago halved its floor space and put the men’s department in with the bread and biscuits.

The steps down into the shop are held down with gaffer tape and the Per Una rail consists of half a dozen random items.

I would not surprise me if I was to read that the shop is due to close and we were being directed to Owlcotes or White Rose ‘for our convenience’.
