SIR – Meningitis UK would like to remind readers there’s still time to organise a Big Bug Hunt fundraising event. Nurseries and playgroups can take part in the scheme throughout the spring to help in the fight against meningitis.

The Big Bug Hunt has been designed to raise awareness among pre-school teachers and parents about the devastating disease, which particularly affects under-fives.

Toddlers can take part in a variety of events and activities tailored to their abilities and interests, including a sponsored bug hunt, fancy dress, cooking bug cakes and colouring competitions.

At least two children under the age of five will be struck down by meningitis every day, which is why money raised through the Big Bug Hunt will go towards Meningitis UK’s Search 4 A Vaccine Campaign. The number 4 signifies the fact that meningitis can kill in under four hours.

We’ve put together a free pack which includes Cheeky Bug stickers, tips on running your event, sponsorship forms, posters and details of how to win £75 of John Lewis vouchers and over £100 of Early Learning Centre toys, arts and crafts.

To register or find out more, call (0117) 3737373, or visit bigbughunt.org.
