SIR – Nineteen-year-old Mohammed Rayaib was stabbed in Bradford Moor last week, with a 22-year-old man now charged with murder.
The incident took place only three weeks after the killing of Huddersfield shopkeeper Gurmail Singh, aged only 63. A hard-working man who delivered morning newspapers to local residents as well as looking after his shop seven days a week, he was very well liked and hundreds attended his funeral.
Five young men have been charged with his murder, two aged 20 and three 17-year-olds.
Another tragic case was that of Fiona Pilkington who, following years of abuse from local yobs and no real action by the police to deal with the problem, killed herself and her 18-year-old daughter Fransesca as the only way to escape the nightmare they faced.
I’m not a Tory, but there are a great many similar stories in recent times suggesting that perhaps Britain is indeed a “broken society” as the Tories claim.
