SIR – I attended the neighbourhood meeting about the future of the Saltaire roundabout.
It is obvious to everyone that the traffic gridlock causes a blight on the surrounding areas, with long journey times and frequent use of rat-runs through otherwise pleasant residential streets – both in Saltaire and Nab Wood.
However, despite closing roads, creating new rat-runs, and even making it difficult to drive to our homes, the planners were unable to promise any improvement in traffic flow.
“It will be neither better nor worse than at the moment”, we were told. The subsequent question of, “So, what is the point?” went unanswered.
But, what is the point of all the disruption and cost if there is no improvement in traffic flow?
Why should we suffer from the inevitable disruption these plans will create without even the consolation that the A650 car park starts to move a little less slowly?
We should either use the anticipated cost of £4m wisely or not at all.
