SIR – I’m sure that I was not alone to be disgusted by the recent shocking revelations that the Conservative party vice-chairman Lord Ashcroft is still shirking his responsibilities, in my opinion, and maintaining his non-domiciled tax status.
The man sits as a legislator in the upper house of Parliament, thus enabling him to make laws in a country to which (by virtue of his non-dom status) he has at best secondary loyalty.
While it seems he has not broken any laws, given the low respect in which our parliamentarians are held because of the expenses scandal, surely you would expect someone in such a high office to show more probity in public life.
Could I, through your pages, ask for a guarantee that not one penny of his money has been accepted by the Tories here in Keighley and Ilkley constituency?
Councillor Nader Fekri (Lib-Dem PPC, Keighley and Ilkley), Hope Street, Hebden Bridge
