SIR – Regarding the proposed improvement at Saltaire roundabout, I’d like to offer a cheaper and more effective solution, because £4m is a lot of money, and with traffic lights, everybody stops, night and day, busy or not.

So, stop all access to and from Hirst Lane, Clarence Road, Albert Road, Queens Road and Moorhead Lane from Bingley Road.

Restore two lanes turning right from Saltaire Road into Bingley Road; provide two lanes at the roundabout in the direction of Bingley.

Make Oastler Road one-way with no right turn on exit; no right turn from George Street and Victoria Road.

A few pots of white paint and some ‘no entry’ signs is all it would take, with a bit of cash to optionally put flow-control traffic lights at Kirkgate if traffic backs up to the roundabout.

When can we start?
