SIR – The recent outburst by Tory MP Sir Nicholas Winterton, insisting that he should get first-class rail travel, at the taxpayers’ expense, so that he did not have to sit with ordinary people, highlights how out of touch the Tories are with the real world.
Sir Nicholas, on a salary of £65,000 per annum, with a spouse, also an MP, can well afford to pay his own travel expenses. “The rich and the rest,” describes the Conservative party, in a nutshell.
