SIR – I had the misfortune to visit the post office in Darley Street when I ‘popped in’, in my lunch hour to buy stamps to send a letter overseas.
Unlike the old system of queuing at the counter, you now collect a ticket with a number on it, and when your number is called, it’s your turn. All very straightforward you may think – but think again!
Bearing in mind I was on my lunch hour from work, I entered the post office at around 12.20pm and got a ticket stating I was number 76 in the queue – but there were 91 people in front of me!
I was astounded by this, but patiently waited – and waited and waited. But then I had to give up as I had to get back to work. There were still about 50 people in front of me.
What a shambolic service. Incidentally, only half the counters were manned. Surely this service could be improved by opening all the counters, especially during the busy lunchtime period.
I finally bought my stamps at the Sunbridge Road post office after work and will be using them in future!
