SIR – While ‘joyride’ might be categorised as informal, it nevertheless is not a euphemism and in no way provides glamorous status to lawbreaking perpetrators when published, as claimed by John Rhodes (T&A, February 23).
For him to say that the T&A’s use of the word in its front page headline on February 17 was to avoid more harsh-sounding words borders on the absurd. Lexicons define joyride as ‘a fast ride in a stolen vehicle’.
