SIR – The dog licence should be brought back to bring in revenue to pay for the facilities provided for people who have pet dogs. Working dogs should be exempt but still have dog tags with a licence number on.
Why should I have to contribute, with my hard-earned money, to someone’s pleasure? Having a pet dog is a personal thing and the funding should not come out of my council tax.
Recently I went for a walk with a friend from Saltaire to Bingley on the canal side.
Halfway to Bingley we stopped counting the piles of dog filth – 40 in all.
For the rest of the way to Bingley there were a lot more than 40 piles of dog filth, and the smell was foul.
At the end of our walk we both felt sick and said we would never walk there again. I wonder what visitors think?
