SIR – The exclusive story in the T&A (‘City second worst in the country for empty shop premises’, February 11) was talking about what Bradfordians already know.
Bradford on the whole is a very depressing place to be with more than 20 per cent of its shops closed up (Probyns, for example, moving from the city centre to the outskirts).
Then there’s the hole in the centre which is going to be turned into a community gardens and landscaped.
It may only be temporary until we get the shopping centre built, but what of money wasted in not refurbishing the shops we do have and bringing new businesses to the city and new jobs?
There have been too many grandiose ideas for the regeneration of the city. Will the Council ever listen to Bradfordians who have said we have lost so much history and heritage because of the planners who think they have done us a favour, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Thank goodness BCR has gone, but it will take years to get back to the good times. Perhaps it is time for Bradfordians to march on City Hall and demand a council tax refund for every citizen and make the Council more accountable.
Let’s make this city great again.
