SIR – I am not the only one who feels that the money being spent on creating the new City Park could have been used to help regenerate historic and long-neglected areas of the city centre such as Ivegate, Westgate and Rawson Place.
But since that isn’t going to happen, we should be positive about the City Park and the benefits it will hopefully bring.
If the space is used as a place to hold a regular calendar of quality events, and therefore attracting many more people into the city centre, then the increased footfall has got to benefit the shops, cafes and restaurants, and maybe even the hotels.
It is a shame though that the green mouldy facade of the former Odeon cinema will continue to overlook the prestigious City Park.
Whatever happened to Yorkshire Forward maintaining the building’s appearance until its eventual demolition?
