SIR – It’s not before time that the leading political party on Bradford Council proposes a council tax freeze.
For too many years now the inflation-busting increases have left many Bradford residents seething with anger as their council tax bills land on their doormats. Let’s hope this year will be different and the councillors, of whatever persuasion, vote to freeze any proposed increase which in the current economic climate is the only sensible course of action.
I know the recently formed West Yorkshire branch of The Taxpayers Alliance will be watching the position very closely and hopefully will be able to shine a light on the waste and excess which, sadly, still exists in many public-sector organisations.
With most private-sector businesses still operating under pay freezes and working-hour reductions, it’s now the turn of the public sector to do its bit and not burden struggling families with further council tax increases until the recession is over.
