SIR – Re the debate on the use of the controversial mosquito high-frequency sound device, used to drive gangs of young people away from store fronts etc (T&A, February 15).

On the face of it these devices are a godsend, and are a good method of dispersing gangs of youngsters who are congregating in shop doorways etc.

A much more effective method of addressing this problem would be the use of cattle prods. These devices deliver a high voltage charge and are highly-effective at controlling cattle movements.

On a more serious note, though, I believe that our young people have got a right to live and to meet and express themselves with their peers.

Our young need places to meet and be themselves. Our useless Government should be investing in our youngsters for the future, but instead they seem hell-bent on spending every last penny on the rest of the world.

If young people have nowhere to meet up, they will find somewhere. This is usually store fronts, parks etc. We should be investing in more youth clubs, sports centres and other venues for youth activities, and we ignore this at our peril.
