SIR – More mosquito devices, those electronic gadgets used to move on groups of rowdy youths, are to be deployed in the Windhill, Shipley, area we are told (T&A, February 15).

These units emit high-pitched noise tuned to the ears of young people, but they are indiscriminate and can affect younger children.

A successful technique, we are advised, but isn’t this a case of dealing with the effect rather than the cause? All that will happen is the problem moves elsewhere.

Does anyone in authority seek to engage with these young people to try and understand the issues they have?

Could it be that young people with little possibility of employment see little relevance in the future and are living for the day, a kind of hopelessness in this steadily declining nation?

What next in the authority’s armoury of electronic control?
