SIR – As an old Bradfordian who dates back to the time that there was a friendly rivalry for business between Bradford and Leeds, it saddens me to see that Bradford Council is virtually encouraging more shoppers to go to Leeds or out-of-town shopping centres.
My cynical view is that Bradford Council should be paying shoppers to come and support local traders rather making it more difficult to park in Bradford centre.
By all means charge motorists who want to park on a street all day, but not the casual shopper who wants to make a purchase.
Rather than spend all that money on parking meters, signs and more wardens, why not just put up signs on the approach to Bradford saying “Shoppers Not Welcome”?
