SIR – I am writing concerning your article “fighting an uphill battle” (T&A, February 9). I am very pleased indeed that Catherine Berry has recovered from ME.
Unfortunately, I do not think the article gives a true picture of this dreadful illness.
There are 25 per cent of sufferers for whom – like Lynn Gilderdale – life is unbearable.
I am in this group of patients and have been under the care of the ME/CFS service in Leeds for 18 months – including eight weeks as an in-patient.
During this time, my symptoms have continued to deteriorate despite following all the advice I have been given meticulously. Most days I am simply too poorly to leave the house.
It would be nice to publish a different perspective from a more severely-affected patient.
