SIR – Watching the Six Nations rugby between Scotland and France reminded me of my grandfather who used to play for Galashiels and Scotland before the First World War.
After four years fighting in the trenches, he was eventually selected for Scotland again.
He told me that after a training session, the team lined-up to collect their national shirts, but the trainer missed him out.
“Where’s my shirt?” my granddad asked.
“Didn’t we give you one before the war?” the coach replied.
Our Scottish Prime Minister could have a great team made up of his front benchers. They are so good at side-stepping.
That is, side-stepping awkward questions!
