SIR – As everyone in Bradford knows, the Council is responsible for one of the most breathtaking acts of incompetence in respect of the city centre shambles which continues to be a blight on the landscape.
As far as I can tell there is still no plan in place to begin construction work (again) on the Broadway development any time soon and I am also aware that every promise of action and deadline for starting work has passed with no apologies offered for the relentless failures by the Council.
Anyone would think that a council in the glare of such acute and surely embarrassing and prolonged bad publicity would learn the lesson of how not to conduct the demolition and development of sites within its jurisdiction and responsibility.
Unfortunately the Council’s ability to fail the public is alive and well and for all to see at the site of the former police station at Odsal.
The police station was demolished many months ago and the site has been neglected and vandalised to the extent that most of the security fencing has gone and the demolition rubble inside is now completely exposed.
This site presents a hazard to the public, especially so to children straying on to the site unhindered by any kind of protective fence.
Once again, the Council has presided over demolition without having any apparent concern or control over subsequent development and in this case is even ignoring public safety issues to boot.
