SIR – Sadly, we have had yet another repatriation of more members of our armed forces who had lost their lives in Afghanistan.

I watched the evening news on BBC at 7pm, and for the first 17 minutes there was nothing but John Terry, who is now no longer the England football team captain.

This was followed by eight minutes on the proposed prosecutions of three Labour MPs and one Conservative peer. The agreement in Northern Ireland merited three minutes, the dreadful Shropshire murder one minute and Michael Jackson’s doctor one minute.

There was the non-stop “breaking news” on John Terry. So we had 30 minutes’ news, but no mention of our heroes who had returned home in coffins.

Has repatriation now become so commonplace that it is no longer considered newsworthy?

We should never forget the families, friends and loved ones who have given their all for this country.

The loss of John Terry’s job is totally insignificant compared to those who have lost their lives and I would like to think that the majority of people in this country would agree with me.
