SIR – Your story (T&A, February 8), with its sub heading ‘Senior police chief believes (Muslim) community has to help in fight against terrorism’ was, I am happy to say, partly answered on page 4, where a small one-column item announced that more than 50 youngsters had turned up at the Camden Terrace Mosque in Manningham last Saturday to sign up as members of a new Scout group.

Those who have been in the Scout movement (more than one in four of us) will well remember the Promise: “On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and the Queen, to help other people, and to keep the Scout Law”. And the most important of those laws in the context of this letter is law four: “A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.”

The Scout and Guide movements have long been a strong force for peace and friendship between people of all races and religions, and are probably more relevant today than ever before.

I wish this new Scout group all the best, and hope it is the catalyst for several more, who may soon be meeting and sharing experiences with the many other Scout groups in this diverse community that is Bradford.
