SIR – Anne-Marie Caldwell (Letters, February 1) highlighted one serious failure in housing provision by our Government, but I wonder if she and others are aware of an even greater scandal?
Twenty-five thousand units of Social Housing Stock around the country are occupied by asylum seekers awaiting the outcome of cases and appeals before immigration tribunals etc at a cost to the taxpayer for rents, council tax, utility bills etc of more than £200 million per annum.
How any Labour MP in constituencies where local families are trapped seemingly indefinitely on ever-lengthening ‘waiting lists’ can look these people in the face, I don’t know.
