SIR – Given that taxi drivers are easy prey for the scum of society, why don’t they have an alarm fitted in their car which can easily be activated unbeknown to their passengers?

I have a personal alarm which emits a deafening screech that can be heard over a wide area. Alarms act as a deterrent, and while they do not guarantee protection from attack, believe me, you feel safer having one.

Recent victim Jammil Zed of Greengates-based Power Car (T&A, January 26) would do well to have one fitted as soon as possible, and I hope his assailants are soon caught and locked up for a long time.
