SIR – Is Simon Cooke threatening us with the rebuilding of Bingley, or is it just another Tory pipedream?
Yes it would be great for this to happen, but who would pay for it? The Council cannot even afford to fill in the bomb site in Bradford.
The Bradford & Bingley site would be great for a supermarket but parking would be a big problem, the site is not big enough. Or is this what Simon Cooke’s thoughts are – knock down the swimming baths, arts centre and the Little Theatre and then we have a car park?
Some readers have got the wrong impression of me, I am not anti-Bingley, just the opposite. I would love Bingley to grow, giving everyone a choice. One reader even suggested I had not lived here long enough. I have lived in Bingley 20 years and would not live anywhere else.
No, I don’t remember what it was like 50 years ago but I do know about its shops and department stores and have photographs of them – the T&A in December 2000 covered my find of old photographs of Bingley which nobody wanted.
One final point: having two supermarkets in Bingley; what a choice then.
