SIR – Re the comment from “brad4all” (Postings From Our Website, T&A, January 29) in which he asks why Lib-Dems don’t leave the coalition (we) have been part of for “nearly ten long years”. This ludicrous claim is in response to Lib-Dem Councillor David Ward’s criticism of proposed Tory cuts to the forthcoming budget.
Brad4all should ask why Labour refuse to work with other parties in running the Council, which Lib-Dems do for the good of the district.
Lib-Dems have consistently argued for an all-party executive in this balanced Council, but Labour refuse to co-operate with the Tories.
Having said that, Labour are ‘in coalition’ with the Tories on occasion, for example in praising the group of councillors who approved the demolition of the Odeon (“they had properly followed procedures”).
Lib-Dems asked a meeting of full Council to dissociate themselves from that decision: after all, the group’s chairman admitted that it had been made with a gun against their (collective) head after someone at unelected quango Yorkshire Forward withdrew support to at least retain the facade.
Is that a Labour/Tory ‘coalition’ which meets with brad4all’s approval?
Councillor John Hall (Lib-Dem, Windhill and Wrose), Pennithorne Avennue, Shipley
