SIR – On Friday, having read about the problems of “non shoppers” in the German Christmas market, I thought that, as I was in the town centre, I would take a look.
So at 9.50am I went down and found that it didn’t open until 11am. By 11am, I had finished my shopping, had a coffee, and was on my way home.
Two points I would like to make: 1. Instead of closing later, they should have tried opening earlier. At 10am, the Arndale Centre and Darley Street were full of people.
Here in Bradford we don’t have the ‘cafe society’, especially with recent weather conditions. And who wants to brave the otherwise empty town centre for a couple of dozen stalls on late evenings?
2. Why on earth did they put it out of the way in front of City Hall? If they had put it in the almost empty paved area alongside Wilkinsons, it would have been a good passageway between both the Arndale and Oastler Centre and would have had lots of shoppers passing by.
