SIR – The weather, lack of traditional German goods, and high prices are being blamed for the demise of the German market.
The Council’s self-satisfied reaction is to pat itself on the back for ensuring that they have paid for the unexpired lease of Centenary Square.
I actually asked one of the Germans why they were going home. His reply was that it was because there was no money in Bradford.
So that is the impression which is being taken back to Germany, and it will spread.
Surely the Council must have realised that few people with disposable incomes now come into central Bradford and if it thinks that spending £24m on a sterile pool and park will attract them and stimulate the economy, then once again it is sadly mistaken.
Incidentally, I visited the market on November 27, prior to having an excellent meal at the nearby Tulsi restaurant.
I wonder how many of our councillors and top Council officials gave similar support.
