SIR – Further to the letters from John Dunn and Paul Garside (T&A, June 10), the Farmers Inn at Thornbury was the place to be on Sunday nights in 1968.

We were members of ‘Bluesville ’68’ and witnessed that year: Duster Bennett; The Free; Chicken Shack; Bruno’s Blues Band c/w Steve Miller; John Dummer Blues Band c/w T S McPhee; Savoy Brown Blues Band; and in what was dubbed a ‘scoop’ – Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac. I was at art school then – I used to sit on the floor with some mates in our shrink-to-fit Levis 501s to savour the original blues boom in Britain, with Bradford at the forefront.

I am indebted to Karen at Keighley Blues Club (still offering first-class blues) for passing on the gig list from Bluesville ’68. Somewhere I still have my membership card.

Incidentally, that year, with my pal Peter, I witnessed John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers with Mick Taylor at The Penny Farthing in Bradford. The rest of the room contained couples eating steaks and canoodling, apparently oblivious to the fabulous music.

Much later I met drummer Keef Hartley, and he said: “Yeah mate, I remember playing that – a sort of souped-up steakhouse.”

Anybody else remember it?
