SIR – We must be suspicious of PM Gordon Brown’s latest announcement about the spirit of the ‘Blitz’ or ‘Dunkirk’ being needed to get us through the present economic downturn, as it’s a bit rich coming from the former Chancellor whose flawed economic policies from 1997 are the cause of most of our problems.

Mr Brown bears no resemblance to Churchill, in my opinion, but, with rising unemployment, house repossession, business insolvency, etc, he looks more like the captain of the Titanic. He’s in denial that the good ship New Labour is going to sink without trace!

My goodness me, if ever there were lessons to be learned about how not to govern this country, I think the present administration must have invented them all.

Although I welcome the next election, what a mess the new lot will have to sort out and what a burden my grandchildren are going to have paying for all these mistakes.
