SIR – Bradford Council should have forced The Bulls to buy Odsal or shut up years ago, and still should, except for the present financial crisis.
Bradford Council sold off the airport and will probably waste the money on silly schemes like Odsal Sporting Village or some road scheme somewhere.
The airport money should have been spent on an all-weather dome over the Park At The Heart scheme, I canvassed everyone on the Council to do this – plus Maud Marshall of Yorkshire Forward and anyone else who would listen – to no avail. No-one has any imagination!
Instead we are going – if it ever gets done now – to have a mirror pool which puts half the park out of use; we can’t walk on water! Will Alsop designed it, but he doesn’t live here or pay rates here. The scheme was refused Lottery cash and no wonder; it wasn’t imaginative enough.
The Lottery team might have jumped at a dome over the whole park, which could have been used no matter what the weather.
Scrap the Odsal scheme, or make them find the money for themselves.
The Dome would benefit “all” the citizens, not just the rugby community.
