SIR – May I thank all the people who helped raise the £9,400 for the off-road wheelchair for Olivia Payne.
The young lady, who is disabled, was presented with her chair at the Otley Farmers’ Market just before Christmas and I, as chairman of the appeal, was overwhelmed by the generosity of people in this area.
This amount was raised in a little over four months at a time when the country is going through a very hard and uncertain period – a great credit to everyone who gave.
Many did their own thing in the way of coffee mornings, music concerts, collection boxes, donations, etc. I cannot, on behalf of myself, Olivia and her mum Joanna, thank them enough.
When the final amounts are in, any shortfall will be made up by the charity Hang On To A Dream, which my wife and I run.
On January 3, at 6.30pm, at the Methodist Church Hall, Otley, we have a concert featuring the Yorkshire Fellowship Band of the Salvation Army. Proceeds will be split between Hang On To A Dream and the Salvation Army.
Tickets will be available on the door and from Waye & Sons, Kirkgate, Otley, and Browse Time, Otley.
Councillor Nigel Francis, chairman of the Olivia Payne Appeal, Leeds Road, Otley
