SIR – Re G Drake’s letter: “Views off the mark ” (T&A, December 23). Would he say that “one per cent of utility workers’ sole aim is to get into people’s home to rob them (because they are bogus)?” No! One would never describe these crooks as “utility workers” without preceding it with the word “bogus”! Utility workers they are not!
Why then does he describe “six out of ten” asylum seekers as “bogus”?
I believe that his criticism of the Bishop of Bradford must fall down here. While Mr Drake may not have worked out the true meaning of the phrase “asylum seekers”, I am sure that the Bishop (being a learned man) has, and in talking of them, does not include all those – who like the bogus “gas board worker” – are trying to work a scam.
