SIR – I could not but raise a wry smile when I read Councillor Adrian Naylor saying “we must make Odsal happen”, as I am old enough to remember the glory days of Bradford Northern (now the Bulls) in the late 1940s.
At that time our worthy councillors said that they would make Odsal the Wembley of the North, and what have we now, 60 years on, the same hole in the ground and nothing that you could call a stadium.
This is typical of our council over all the years since then, when they promise large and deliver small. As far as Odsal is concerned, the last chance for something big to happen was the previous scheme, when there was talk of hotels and, more importantly, a sliding roof.
Situated where Odsal is at the end of a major motorway, such a scheme would have brought major benefits to Bradford but, as usual, our council failed to grasp the nettle and the scheme collapsed.
Let’s get on with it before some other council does and once again Bradford is left behind, wondering what might have been.
