SIR – As we move rapidly towards January which celebrated the good Roman deity which looks both forwards and back, I’m struck by the end of such British institutions as Woolies and the writings of Mike Priestley, both of which will be sorely missed.
So may I, like so many, through your pages put on record my appreciation to both for the pleasure of ‘mix and match’ in so many happy times, whether they’re spent sorting through a delightful selection of mouth-watering sweets, or gobbling up another tasty morsel of lively comment from a journalist who many of us feel is like a friend dropping in for a chat.
Nothing we’re told is irreplaceable, so we’ll wait and see as the New Year dawns.
