SIR – Recently we have been engaged in clearing and coppicing somewhat Shipley Station meadow to allow more sunlight in and thus help preserve the butterfly species that reside there.

We are senior citizens and the work is heavy, although ultimately very rewarding.

Although not fully official residents in Bradford, we do a lot of work recording and filming various aspects of the region’s wildlife.

We now carry the senior citizens bus pass which allows all senior citizens in this country to travel anywhere on the local buses throughout the UK.

This is an official pass that has now been guaranteed by an act of Parliament.

Unfortunately we have found the pass is not welcome on some of the region’s buses, particularly First Bus, and in no uncertain manner we are often threatened and told to get off the bus in question.

Although we have written to Metro and First Bus about this and have been assured by management that we are absolutely within our legal rights, we are continually asked to get off the bus.

We have heard that other senior citizens have been threatened in a similar manner.

Something has to be done about this appalling situation.

First is obliged to honour all valid concessionary passes and is happy to do so. All First bus drivers have received training to ensure that they can recognise valid passes. Mr Wise did contact us directly and we investigated his complaint and gave him our response and in addition to this we have also reissued instructions to all First Bradford bus drivers.”
