SIR – How sad it is to hear that Kathy Staff, aka Nora Batty from Last Of The Summer Wine for the past 30-odd years, has died. I am sure she brought a lot of joy and laughter to all who knew her personally or through her television programmes.
I have met her on two occasions in my life, one at a book-signing in Leeds and one in Bradford at the Alhambra Theatre where, funnily enough, she starred in the Nutcracker Suite. Both times she very kindly posed for my camera to have her photograph taken.
She was a very down-to-earth person and genuine and kind lady to have a chat with.
Alas this is another Last Of The Summer Wine actor who has passed over, the last one was dear old Compo, aka actor Bill Owen who I also have met on various occasions – the Alhambra Theatre and the Winter Gardens at Ilkley when he did a guest appearance shortly before he died.
Very fond and happy memories I will have of both of them. Both were very good actors and will be very sadly missed by all the cast and all the public who knew them.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Kathy Staff’s family and all the best for the New Year to them on this sad occasion.
