SIR – I strongly object to the proposed closure of Queensbury swimming baths.
It is a perfectly good pool which is ideally suited to those learning to swim and competent swimmers alike.
My husband and I learnt to swim there and have used the pool to successfully teach our five-year-old to swim. A large city centre pool is unlikely to be suitable for this purpose because it will become over-run with large numbers of people, especially if and when the Government’s proposed free swimming comes to fruition.
As we are all encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint, closing a local facility such as this will mean people on the outskirts of the city centre will have to drive to and from the pool instead of being able to walk as we do now.
If the pools need to become more profitable then ways of making them do so should be tried rather than simply closing them down. I would suggest early morning openings.
It is very short-sighted of the Council to even consider thinking about closing our pool and is definitely an idea they should scrap right now!
