SIR – For nearly a century, children and adults have learned to swim at Bingley Swimming Pool. It has been a facility for schools, clubs and the general public. Thousands of people have learned to swim there from the age of six months to 90 years. To close the pool would be a disaster.
Bingley is surrounded by water. The bottom line is that if children have nowhere local to learn to swim, not only in Bingley but throughout the district, there will be more swimming causalities and unnecessary loss of life in the future.
Bingley is going through a much-needed restoration period; to close the pool would be degeneration.
My advice and I am sure that of many people in Bingley is for Bradford to think again and forget the closures.
Patricia Barnard, retired swimming teacher, Bailey Hill Road, Bingley
